It appears it was not just my copy of Dead Nation that had problems, many users are now reporting the game is crashing and throwing up the CE-34878-0 error screen.
“Have it none stop with dead nation games virtually unplayable,” explained one poster of the official PlayStation forums. “Downloaded Dead Nation not long ago and have already had 5 CE-34878-0 error messages. While I have not lost anything significant, as I have only got 10 minutes into the game, this really needs sorting,” added another and posted this image.

The fault seems to be something to do with the online servers, other games such as NBA 2K 14 and Battlefield 4 have also suffered from the problem. However, not all users are reporting the error, some say the game works without fault.
“‘Regrettably there is no further update on this issue. The problem is still under investigation as a high priority and we are working to resolve this ASAP!” is the response from Sony. “If you are experiencing this ce-34878-0 error code, please close the application and then install the latest system software and game patch,” the add, which is less helpful.
Update: A patch is being worked on, huzzah!
A small number of players is experiencing some issues with online connectivity and save files. Team is working on a solution as we tweet

Oh, the joys of a new generation!
Lyts1985
Heh, at least this gen we get error logs ;-)

Stupid error! I haven’t forgiven my PS4 for giving me this error with Tomb Raider last week – back to the safety of PS3 and 360!
Paranoimia
Ah, but there is a patch. It downloaded with mine when I grabbed the game.
That said, I don’t know if it resolves the issue because I haven’t played it yet.
Wardy-77-
Indeed the patch downloaded for me along with the game,I’ve had no issues with the game so far, surely the patch should have downloaded for people upon booting the game up during the course of the day.
Tuffcub
Its a day one patch, and it doesnt fix the problem.
Wardy-77-
Ah right.

Mate of mine got the error non stop. It’s something to do with the ps4 and certain types of router. Once he opened the correct port and gave his ps4 permission to use it, he had no more problems.
He’s using the newest BT home hub.
jonny_bolton
I’m using the BT Home Hub 5 and haven’t had a single issue with Dead Nation (completed last level but it took forever to upload to the leaderboard), and my errors with BF4 don’t seem to be as bad as everyone else’s. This means there must be another factor in play to cause it other than the router…

Looking down at djdustb’s post however, I haven’t actually checked any of the error logs as I’ve not had any crashes of note recently. I’ll check tonight and report back.
djdustb
I’ve not had this error at all yet, I wonder why some users of the same games in the same region are not affected while other users are having such a hard time with it?
djdustb
Ok looking back at my error logs it seems I was wrong, one instance of this on Dead Nation, one on Thief, one on KZ and loads on Doki Doki.
beeje13
Not got any errors myself, but has anybody else noticed a really laggy homescreen when pressing the ps button while dead nation is playing?
Kitch
Yep. I’ve had it. I’ll wait for a patch. It seems to happen as it’s updating the global scoreboard. Very frustrating and quite a common problem.
Bilbo_bobbins
this is interesting as everyone was slagging off DICE/EA for this problem on BF4 for ages, including me. But it seems to be Sonys problem.
This needs sorting out immediately.
double-o-dave
I haven’t had a problem so far although I’ve only done 2 levels.

I’ve had massive issues with my PS4 and connectivity to the PSN through my router…it seems UPNP doesn’t work well…my PS3 is in the DMZ of my router but after changing to my PS4 into the DMZ router I don’t have one issue any more…Dead Nation included…
djdustb
Does anyone else have their PS3/4 set up in a DMZ? Do they have issues with this?
It could be worth finding out on here (being such an active community) who is affected by the issues, when, how, what games and how you have the system connected to your router.
Perhaps between us we can find out a decent system to at least limit the issues we have.
