If you try to sign into PSN on your PS4, yo might find that you’ll be greeted with an error telling you that you cannot connect to the server and giving the error code NW-31201-7. Oddly, the PS3 and Vita seem unaffected.
You’re not the only one, as the issue seems to be widespread, with many users reporting on twitter that the PSN service is down and citing the same error code. It’s likely that the service is overloaded, meaning that it’s down completely (or at least close to that) at the moment.
Sony’s official error code list shows that the NW-31201-7 error means that the servers may be unavailable, while the PSN status page currently shows that the PSN is offline, with PS4 users unable to connect to the service.
The PlayStation Network is currently:
Offline
PlayStation 4 users are currently unable to access the PlayStation Store and may experience connectivity issues with PSN. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.
This comes soon after the maintenance on Monday, and news that the US PSN store update would be delayed by a day from Tuesday until today.
Sony are currently investigating the case and we’ll let you know when the service comes back up.
UPDATE: While the status page still claims that the service is still offline, users appear to be able to sign into PSN once again.
UPDATE 2: The PSN is now back online and fully functional, according to the official status site.
