Ubisoft Drops A Video Showing Off More Of The Snowdrop Engine

Ubisoft has released a new video which is further showing the potential of the Snowdrop engine that is being used to build The Division. It’s a brief look at how the engine and what the team likes about, interspersed with very nice looking shots of The Division game as things are changed within it, from the location of items to the way buildings are shaped and the size of tunnels changed.

It looks very nice and if this is what the final result will look like then I’ll be very impressed, but there is some scepticism following recent events that appeared to show Watch Dogs had suffered a bit of a downgrade since its reveal. Evidence for that won’t really be able to be assessed until launch so we’ll wait until then to judge, and the same goes for The Division. The cityscape and the woodland areas both look great. The lighting as well, which was the feature of a previous trailer, looks as good as ever too.

  1. Yeah, really hoping that the fact this is next gen only means it doesn’t suffer too much graphical degradation, which let’s face it is probably inevitable, esp. with the Xbox one holding everything back. Not that I’m a graphics whore or anything, I just want my games to look next gen as well as offering next gen gameplay experiences and so far I’ve not been that impressed on either count…

  2. Impressive stuff. The woodland scenes especially.

    • Agreed, just a shame we won’t see much of that gorgeous woodland in New York!

      • Snowdrop will no doubt be used for many other Ubisoft games, given how damn good it looks. So hopefully we’ll see those kind of natural environments looking that good in a game soon!

      • Hopefully Central Park will get some of the woodland treatment.

      • True, I forgot about Central Park!

  3. I love videos like this. It gives you an insight into the studio as well as showing off how effing cool their tech is. Cheers, Aran. :-)

  4. The Division is definitely a title, I’m looking more forward to, than any other Ubi title (AC, Watch Dogs etc.).

    • Sorry to be that guy, but the punctuation here really made me laugh.

      • Well yes, it happens to me from time to time. I’m glad, I made you laugh :P

      • Germanos was just short of breath, that’s all! :-)

  5. Looking amazing. This is my most anticipated game on PS4 this year. Here’s hoping it looks this good on release.
