What We Played #153: Killzone Shadow Fall, Thief & Trials Fusion

Killzone: Shadow Fall is still helping to keep Tuffcub off the streets and has been aided in that task this week by the “rather bombastic” Battlefield 4, the “isn’t half bad” Thief and the “infuriating” Knack. The latter being “difficult and the checkpoints are the most ridiculous I have ever encountered”.

Definitely not helping protect the public from our beloved TC are a bunch of PS Vita titles: Final Fantasy X-2, MUD and TxK. In particular he’s “loving” the “really, really good” TxK. He also tried the PlayStation Plus game Hotline Miami. “Ignoring the fact it looks absolutely terrible it is just plain awful. One hit kills, silly controls and just the worst thing I have played in many years.”

The always polite Dom has been trying to rapidly make his way through Final Fantasy XIV but has become resigned to the fact that it’ll probably take him months at his current rate of progress. I do wonder if it might be a certain other game that got plenty of mentions last week that is slowing him down.

I’ve also become addicted to Trials Fusion and trying to beat everyone on my friends list! This has meant I’ve seen a lot of TSA riders with Jungleman80, RTSHIP and Blair putting up a serious fight!

I’ve also just started Lego: The Movie with my son Noah who is loving it – he doesn’t really get progression yet, simply wanting to reply the same levels over and over!

Aran’s been too busy to play anything other than MLB The Show 2014 which he calls, “a fun game that has quite the depth to it” and is finding that it’s not just pitches but also the game’s wealth of stats that mostly fly over his head.

Going to the length of contracting mumps to give yourself more time with a controller could be a sign a dedication, desperation or merely desperate luck. Not sure which of those was the case for DanToo but he’s now in the position of having plenty of time to lay in bed playing videogames. He reports that it hurts to eat but I see that as one less gaming distraction and it’s not like laying down uses much energy.

He’s played snatches of inFamous Second Son and Killzone: Shadow Fall “for which the checkpoint saving is appalling and extremely frustrating” as well as Thief and Assassin’s Creed Freedom Cry but is yet to be completely convinced by the PlayStation 4. I put that down to being delirious through illness and not having played Warframe.

I’ve also managed to play about 37 seasons on that Football Chairman game, making it all the way up from Non-league C to winning the Premier League, a total of 7 promotions and 1 relegation. But now I’ve mismanaged my finances now and I’m in huge debt so I’m giving up on it and starting a new save on Football Manager instead. Hopefully I wont get sacked as much as I did last time.

Blair has played a little FIFA 14, “the charming and stylish puzzler” Hitman Go and some Elder Scrolls Online. Something else has been preventing him playing much of any of those, that something being obvious if you read about Dom’s gaming above. Yes, he’s sunk the majority of his gaming time this week into Trials Fusion “which is brilliant with a true sense of challenge”.

Are you all still leaderboard-chasing in Trials Fusion too?

  1. Just Bioshock Infinite this week. Feels like I’m getting close to the end but I don’t know, probably ages yet! Unusually for me I’ve done the first playthrough on hard, which was fairly hard to start with but has gotten more manageable with better weapons etc. Not sure I’m up for the 1999 mode tho’! How much harder is it?

  2. I should name check tonycawley and BryOnRye as well in the Trials Fusion leaderboards! I’ve seen their names flying past far more times than is healthy!

  3. More Trials for me too. Mostly trying for platinum medals on the earlier stages or silver or better on the hard stages.
I’ve also been playing a lot of Terraria on PS3 due to the latest patch which added loads of new stuff … including quite a few bugs and glitches.

  4. I tried to play BioShock (the 1st one) this week, but am finding it’s crashing on startup which is insanely annoying. Will try to have a google and get it working on the weekend, as it’s a game I’ve wanted to play for years!

  5. This week I’ve been dabbling with GT5 and mostly pleasuring myself with Fez. The latter has grabbed my attention firmly, I’ve never been so adamant on wasting my time solving puzzles and translating made up runes. I’ve had help and I feel guilty about that, but it’s still brilliant. This morning I finished the story getting the 32bits, now for the 64 long haul, hopefully there’s another ending to come!

  6. I’ve been catapaulting some of those not best pleased aviary dwellers around and accumulated a grand total of 2142/2715 stars so far. Brilliant pick-up and play game on Vita.

  7. I’ve been solely playing Final Fantasy X for the past 3 weeks and, at last, the platinum is in sight… After 85hrs I’ve done pretty much everything (all celestial weapons fully powered, lightning dodging, blitzball, Al Bhed primers, all aeons, etc etc) aside from maxing out the sphere grids, beating the final boss, beating the 2 super bosses, Nemesis and Penance, and some of the dark aeons. A couple more weeks of grinding and I’ll be done :-)

Definitely going to take a couple weeks break between X and X-2 then… Maybe give Sly a go at last

  8. This week, Sucker Punch achieved for themselves an ultra rare trophy.. the ” Make TSBonyman want to complete an Infamous game” trophy. ;)
True hero achieved, i’ll set it aside now for a few months before replaying it for the bad karma.

I’m about 3/4 way through my second play of Uncharted 3 and i’m enjoying it as much as my first playthrough.

Also tried the Adam Ventures trial. It’s about 100 times better than Unearthed and about one tenth as good as Uncharted.

Finally, OctoDaa-aad … i decided getting to play it now was worth the extra few euros but i’m taking my time with it.

  9. This week I played a bit more on metal gear ground zeroes, which I am enjoying and spending more time on it than I thought.
I picked up the stick of truth cheap,so I’ve made a start on it and I’m having such good fun playing it!

  10. Spec Ops: The Line – I caught a opportunity to buy the game really cheap for 4 pounds (incl. shipping). I am currently on Chapter 10 and I like it very, very much. It reminds me of “Platoon”, “Apocalypse Now” and “Full Metal Jacket” while playing. Graphics are a little lame when it comes to characters and textures. Sand looks nice, but still not as good as in U3 ^^ Nevertheless, the game is really recommendable. It is a standard representative of TPP shooter, but “different” in terms of plot-twists and story.

    • Yeah I enjoyed spec ops the line myself, got it through the PS plus, by far the hardest and most frustrating platinum I ever achieved!
