WeView Verdict: FIFA 14

With our Ultimate Team competition fully underway, FIFA 14 was a perfect candidate for WeView. There was a decent response from the FIFA hardcore, and many of them focused on the all-important next generation improvements, and the response was quite varied overall.

“It has some very deep modes of play from Ultimate team, to Online Seasons to Be A Pro, there is something for everyone.” said BrendanCalls, suggesting that your money would go far with a lot of “bang for your buck”. Wick15 agreed, stating that it’s his most played PS4 game, and highlighting “the graphics, the improved gameplay and the great atmosphere you get in stadiums”.

Taylor Made didn’t like the game mechanics: “Slow, sluggish, represent nothing realistic about football.” they said, before suggesting that the main reason people buy it is due to the extensive team licenses. Pro clubs is still worth playing, though.

My own views are very much the same as double-o-daves‘: “it’s always a laugh to play against your mates whilst necking a few drinks back (even if you do lose nearly every game)”. That’s pretty much the best reason to play FIFA, but Dave also suggests that it “gets boring after about 4 games”. Both Dave and psychobudgie said that it was a step up from the PS3 version, with psycho describing it as a “quantum leap” from last generation.

“I’m so conflicted about FIFA 14” said baggyg, leaving a huge comment discussing the pros and cons. The pros ranged from the hundreds of hours of playtime to the “super” graphics, while cons focused on “stupid and wrong” commentary and lengthy time waiting for throw-ins, as well as scripted AI and referee strictness being off. The FIFA Ultimate Team market is also broken, and this is a point noted by BrendanCalls too.

Colmshan1990 is “hopelessly addicted” to the game, and always seems to boot it up despite his extensive collection of games, and even when he’s busy “studying” he can be found loading up the browser or app and managing his Ultimate Team.

Amphlett was quite annoyed with the game, so much so that he broke his DS4. I’ll let him explain why…

The crippling scripted runs, near intentional poor selection of players when switching, continual offsides of the strikers, stumbling defenders and comical non-tackling when hammering the X button, it all adds up to a truly frustrating and shockingly awful experience.

Quite a mixed response then, but mostly positive. That leaves us with six Buy It ratings, one Bargain Bin It and one Avoid It which shows that it’s still worth getting, despite complaints. Perhaps because there’s no other next generation football titles around though.

Poll time! Tomorrow, we’ve got PS Vita exclusive Tearaway coming up, and joining the poll is free-to-play PS4 game, Warframe.

  1. I voted for warframe next, please all vote for warframe, I want to say my piece!
I purposely didn’t comment on fifa, I would’ve written 10 paragraphs and I’m too conflicted.

    • Think I binned Warframe after about 5mins play. Actually, how does the whole ‘Buy it, Bargain Bin, Avoid it’ thing work with a free-to-play game?

      • Microtransaction it, Free play it, Avoid it, perhaps?

      • Yep, makes sense.

    • Voted Warframe just for you Tony (as i don’t play it) as your itching to have your say :D
