Game Expo Scotland 2014 Has Been Cancelled

With Eurogamer Expo, London has been the premier destination for gamers all over the country who want to get their hands on early builds of their most anticipated games and queue up for hours on end. Of course, for those in the furthest reaches of England, Scotland and Wales from the capital, that often meant travelling down overnight on uncomfortable coaches and either staying overnight in a hotel or trying to travel back the very same day.

So Game Expo Scotland was quite an interesting proposition, to have a counterbalance on the other end of the country for gamers that don’t fancy travelling quite so far to still be able to get that sneaky peak. Sadly, it’s not come to pass for 2014, with a number of factors seemingly contributing to the cancellation of the show less than a month before it was set to take place, as GES released a statement on Facebook.

Dear all

We are extremely disappointed to announce that Game Expo Scotland 2014 is cancelled. We have been doing everything in our power to make the event happen, however the ticket price would not represent the value of the expo we could provide.

In short, the companies we have been speaking with for months have not committed and the content of the expo would be very limited to justify an expo we have been marketing.

We apologise for the very late notice, however we do appreciate all the support from our facebook and twitter followers. This is the last thing we wanted to do.

All tickets will be refunded for those who have purchased so far.

Hopefully next year, in our distopian future where we don’t all have flying cars and auto-lacing trainers, GES will have more luck in opening its doors.

Wait, were you expecting something other than a Back To The Future reference?

  1. Game Expo give Scotland a NO vote.

    • Independence means loneliness. :D

  2. So it is being cancelled because of????? I presume a lack of interest from developers if the ticket price “won’t match the quality of the expo”…strange considering Scotland has a big part to play in the UK Games industry.

    • Their second paragraph basically says that not enough exhibitors came on board, and so it wouldn’t have been worth it to the people that did buy tickets and wouldn’t have been enough to pull in those who were waiting to see what the final line up would be.

  3. A shame as I was looking forward to this, but I can’t say I’m surprised. The very reason I hadn’t bought a ticket yet was because they hadn’t been anything listed on the site to make me thing it was worth it, with the only ‘Hollywood’ game listed being Dead Island 2.
