Grand Theft Auto V Looks Like It Will Have A 50GB Install On PS4

A now removed listing from the European PlayStation store has revealed that Grand Theft Auto V will require 50GB of the PS4’s hard drive space to function. A screenshot of the information appeared over on the GTA forums, along with a much bigger product description. The product page was for the GTA V bundle which contained a total of $1,300,000 in game currency to be split between both the single player mode, and GTA Online.

The product description also mentions the Move navigation controller to be used for motion control features in the game, though whether those will actually materialise in GTA V for PS4 would remain to be seen. The install size is one of the largest, if not the largest, we’ve seen so far on the new generation of console beating other giants like Wolfenstein: The New Order or Killzone Shadow Fall.

  1. It is a truly massive game in every sense of the world. A big ol’ install makes perfect sense, especially considering the better quality assets going into the PS4 version. Hannypoppie and I will be getting a PS4 (possibly for my birthday at the end of the month). Whenever it happens, I’ll be purchasing a 1.5TB HDD or something along those lines to swap-out the standard drive before I do anything with the PS4 itself.

    • That’s the first thing I did when I got my PS4 on release day, but it was a 1TB. Really glad I did now.

      • I bet! God help anyone with a naff connection and a 500GB HDD in there. :(

      • That’ll be me then!

Although I don’t believe that the entity you mentioned will actually be of any help at all in this situation. ;)

That said, I somehow still have around 200GB space on my 500GB… For the moment.

      • Me also! Sold it, brought two bridesmaids dresses for my wedding with the proceeds, got married, yay! Wedding and honeymoon now over, boooo, but can start saving for a PS4 again, yay! Unfortunately, I’ll always have shit internet :)

    • 1.5TB! That’s so last year. Go for 2TB.

Seriously though, I wouldn’t like a 1TB HDD to get full with 20 games and then replace it with a 2TB HDD just to have another months worth of downloading to do. The data sizes of these games are truly staggering. I mean 50GB for GTA V is impressive next to the 40GB size of other much smaller games.

  2. I guess around 40-50gigs is the norm now. Still huge for a 500gb console, especially if you have download restrictions from your ISP.

  3. I need new hard drive, the other day my ps told me hard drive full you can’t play or download any gameplay capture blah blah.

I don’t even know how to change my hard drive plus don’t want damage warranty

    • There are plenty guides online for changing the hard drive, it’s pretty simple. Just do a search and you’ll find both text (with pics) and video guides.

    • It won’t affect your warranty one bit. The best thing to do is pop on YouTube and just watch someone doing it. That’s what I did for the PS3 (as well as reading a few comments online about the old blue-screw being a fickle bugger) but it was fine. I’m sure the PS4 is even easier. :-)

    • Really easy to do, you can pick up a 2tb HDD (in an enclosure you have to crack open for under £70 too) :)

    • Cheers guys, hopefully I don’t fuck up my ps like I did my 360 when it RROD, I created a new problem after trying fix it myself lol

  4. Gonna have to get me a new hdd too. Still not sure I’m gonna get this as it probably too big for me to invest time in to get my money’s worth. Saying that I did put over 60 hours into getting my knack plat

  5. I pre-ordered it before it was removed.. Should I cancel it? I mean, what if my P-O gets lost or I have to pay for 2 copies? :( If I cancel, I won’t be able to re-pre-order it though.
