Sony has released the first trailer for Powers, the PlayStation Original series, which is due to debut this winter. The show itself is based on the comic series of the same name, and follows the a special sector of the Chicago Homicide department that investigate crimes involving individuals who have super powers. The main character is Christian Walker, who used to have powers before losing them and becoming an officer.
He is the main focus of the trailer and he really appears to resent the fact that he is no longer a superhero. Sharlto Copley , who you may recognise from District 9, is the one taking on the main role, with Susan Heyward taking the role of Deena. The cast also includes Eddie Izzard as Wolfe, Michelle Forbes as Retro Girl, Adam Godley in the role of Captain Cross, Max Fowler taking the role of Krispin Stockley, Noah Taylor as Johnny Royale, Olesya Rulin as Calista, and Logan Browning as Zora.
Powers will be available for free to those with a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Looks promising. Hopefully it won’t go the way of Heroes after the first season.

This looks really good. Copley is brilliant.
Maybe they can make Breaking Bad with powers ?

Was this the thing they spent half an hour at E3 bigging up? I thought that it was just going to be a cartoon, but it kinda looks quite good.

The number of people involved in this with a record of good things seems promising.
Copley was brilliant in District 9 (and very entertaining in Elysium, even if some people seemed to complain about his accent). Michelle Forbes has been in too many things. Star Trek? BSG, briefly? And she was great in the American remake of The Killing (which really shouldn’t have worked, let alone worked really well)
And according to imdb, a “series directed by” credit (a new on on me) for someone who directed half a dozen episodes of the wonderfully twisted Hannibal (and one of those bollocks films about sparkly vampires, but we won’t hold that against him, especially if he also directed an episode of Breaking Bad)
So that’s all promising. But, it seems to be taking a worryingly long time to make. A pilot episode made 3 years ago as a joint production between Sony and FX? Scrapped, recast, moved to being a PSN thing, chucked big names at it? Can’t quite work out if that’s a good thing or not. We’ll see soon enough, I guess.

i’m not familiar with the comic but hopefully it has enough to distinguish it from Heroes or Alphas. One thing for certain, with Sharlto Copley on board it has credibilty straight off the bat.

Oh sweet, I didn’t realise that Plus thing had been confirmed outside the US (last I heard they were shopping it round regular channels here). Happy I won’t have to put up with that conventional TV nonsense :P

now that i like the look of.
Copley’s presence would be a draw, but the premise also interests me, though i’ve never actually read any of the comics, sadly.
i hope the free for plus subscribers is still a thing for Europe.
and also that we don’t have to wait ages for it.
