Sony’s first foray in to video content created specifically for the PlayStation Network, Powers, has been granted a second season following the conclusion of the first, which ended last week.
The series, which for reasons unknown has still yet to reach the European PlayStation network, was met with mixed reviews with some criticising the rather cheep look of the show. It is based on a graphic novel written by Brian Michael Bendis and features two detectives who investigate people who have super human abilities.
“The reception to Powers has been incredible and we are thrilled to have successfully launched a platform for original content with the PlayStation gamer in mind,” said John Koller, vice president of platforms marketing at Sony Computer Entertainment America. “We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of Powers.”

i know the reason it’s not in, most of, Europe yet, no other networks have bought it in most of the EU countries.
France has it, but it’s tied to some other service, there’s another EU country that has it, but once again tied to another service, New Zealand has it, not an EU country i know, but it’s not even free with plus, there it’s exclusive to some other streaming service called lightbox.
and i’d like to nominate sony for the award for the worlds most ironic use of the word “broaden”.
hell, Canada hasn’t even got it.
that’s how dedicated sony are to this americans only bullshit they’re pulling with this series.

The stupid thing as soon as it was released in the US, anyone can grab it whenever they like. Are Sony still not aware of the internet?
So, the choice is to wait until Sony decide to release it in the EU for whatever they want to charge me or just download it and watch it now for free..?
(It actually doesn’t appeal to me, but you can see the flaw in their business model can’t you?)

Also, “…met with mixed reviews with some criticising the rather cheep look of the show.”
Is interpreted as “The reception to Powers has been incredible and we are thrilled…”
I love PR people. :)

It’s funny that we have it here in Austria in the OV and not localised, but other english sspeaking countries haven’t.

I’ve watched the first few episodes and i thought it was pretty good, some interesting characters, Eddie Izzard is quite monstrous. Still have a few episodes to catch up on but it looks like i’ll have watched it all by the time it releases over here.
They don’t seem to realise how much viewing habits have changed. Nobody waits these days when everything is a few mouse clicks away.
