Funking Brilliant! Toejam & Earl To Return

“Toejam & Earl is one of those games that has never really been matched. It was, I suppose, a kind of dungeon crawler except each dungeon was a verdant green island and the loot you collected was bits of your broken spaceship. The enemies were all odd caricatures of human characters and you could play the whole game in cooperative 2-player mode with new dialogue. It was wonderful.”

Not my words, but those of the recently departed Peter way back in 2012 when he speculated on a job listing that hinted at the return of Toejam & Earl. Sadly for him that game turned out to be Doki Doki Universe but at last we have the announcement he has been waiting for, Toejam & Earl are funking back!

A post on a Facebook page owned by HumaNature Studios, developers of Doki-Doki Universe and headed by Greg Johnson, one of TJ&E’s original designers, reads as follows:

Greetings from Funkotron! We haven’t been posting as often lately because we’ve gotten really busy with the new TJ&E game. We will be making some announcements in a probably 3 or 4 weeks, when we have something we can show, and will be able to share lots of information with you.

Doki Doki Universe came out all three PlayStation systems but no format has been announced for the new Toejam & Earl game. Let’s hope it’s for PlayStation and Xbox rather than iOS.

  1. “the recently departed Peter”

    Missed that. :(

    • Erm that reads wrong, he’s not dead. Just left TSA .

  2. They’d better keep it true to the original or it’ll be rubbish. We don’t want a 1st or 3rd person remake. Just tart up the graphics and re-release it. Joe Jam, Big Earl! Poindexter!

    • I agree, that’s one remake I’d love to see – the original is best!

Even the loading elevator sections with Earl farting.

      • I just remembered the present randomizer – what a bitch that was, particularly after you had discovered half of what was in each type of present. And that spinning beanie that just killed you on the spot. Such a crazy game.

  3. Oh sweet! Please make it resemble the first one! I love that one! The second one wasn’t that bad either, but still (I heard the third one stank & not in the good funky way).

  4. Has Peter gone? That sucks :-(

  5. What happened to Peter? Toejam and Earl was brilliant back in the day. I wonder what they will do to keep it modern?

  6. I didn’t know Peter had left? :O

  7. Thought Peter was just working away in the background! What happened, were did he go?

  8. Awesome. Toejam and Earl was my favourite game in Meet the Reader. I hope this gets the love it deserves.
