I knew if I put my mind to it I could find some delightful “Friday” news to end the week and today’s is a bit of a doozy.
Final Fantasy XV is offsetting some of it’s ridiculous development costs by incorporating in-game product placement for Coleman branded camping equipment. Tents, coolers, tables and chairs, even the plates will feature the company logo.

Camping is an important part of Final Fantasy XV as allows the players eat meals, level up and save their game. According to Final Fantasy website Nova Crystallis, adding the Coleman brand is part of Square Enix’s vision “to give a compelling view of a fantasy based on reality”.

Call of Duty should do the same, we all know camping is a big part of that too.

Hmm, seems that everyone is intent on having ads in their games these days.

Really, the last time I noticed an in game ad outside of mobile games was the ad-supported multiplayer in wipeout hd, 3-4 years ago.
For me, subtle product placement is infinitely preferable to microtransactions and the like.

I love ads like this in games. As long as there’s no cheesy sell (like if Cloud was sipping a can of Red Bull and gave an “ahhh”) then I don’t really mind.

i dont mind product placement if its done like this. i mean if you are having this stuff anyway in the game, it doesnt hurt if they have a real world brand name on it… just so long it doesnt get shoehorned in or is unnecesary focused upon or something like that…
