LEGO: The Hobbit Will Not Receive Five Armies DLC

Fans of LEGO: The Hobbit will be left hanging as the expected DLC expansion which centre’s around The Battle of Five Armies has been cancelled.

Publisher Warner Bros. confirmed “The LEGO: The Hobbit video game gives LEGO and Middle-Earth fans a fun, new way to experience the legendary adventures of Bilbo and company as told in the first two films of Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy. The game provides an excellent set-up for the concluding chapter of Peter Jackson’s film, The Hobbit: The Battle of Five Armies. There are no plans to develop DLC based on the final film of the trilogy.”

A press release last year stated that the original plan was to conclude the game with the DLC,  “Additional content based on the third film, The Hobbit: There and Back Again, is planned to be available at a future release date.”

There is no official word on the reason behind the cancellation as of yet. However, LEGO: Jurassic World and LEGO: Marvel’s Avengers both releasing this year may have something to do with it.

  1. Well that’s a bit shit. Have no idea why they released it before the third film came out anyway.

  2. I don’t understand how they think that leaving a game unfinished is acceptable.

    • To be fair, the game was finished. It’s just the story won’t be now.

  3. I did wonder how they were planning on handling the last episode with DLC when it was likely to be so far away from when the actual game released – There was no way that people were likely to hold onto the game for that long. Lego games rarely take a long time to complete/platinum, so unless people were specifically holding off for the DLC that they did say was going to come (& will therefore now be disappointed), it was probably traded ages ago.

I did have the thought that they might do what they did with Lego Indiana Jones 2 though, where you have a game mainly based around one film, but with the odd level that calls back to the previous films. Would have seemed a bit like a cash grab of course, but its not like it hasn’t been done before. Unless this is the route that they are now taking, as they haven’t said explicitly that they won’t, just that DLC for the final film won’t be released.

Also like how they have gone from there definitely being DLC for it, to there not being DLC for it with no actual real explanation at all. Brilliant.

  4. My son will be gutted. When Lego: The Hobbit came out I told him that the last film would be DLC. Bit rubbish to cancel it now.

  5. This is a bit upsetting as I was holding off getting rid of this due to DLC coming out. It was quite obvious though it wasn’t coming out as I think it would of come out close to the film release. Is a shame anyway.

  6. This is unacceptable. I understand that DLC is an addition to the gaming experience, but not like this. This is like releasing Half Life 2 episode 1 and 2 without completing episo-….

    …never mind

  7. So you release a lego game on a trilogy and decide to release it before the third film is released then take a giant dump on those who were looking forward to playing the third movie. The Hobbit Lego Game shouldn’t have been released until the third film was out to avoid this happening. THe Battle of the Five Armies. Seriously, how can you pass this up? The entire main focus is a damn battle and that begs for a game. Instead, nothing. So, this is no longer the complete tale of the Hobbit but an incomplete tale of the hobbit.

Or they intend on releasing Lego:The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies at some point. Or an ultimate Middle Earth collection based on the Jackson films. Or they know DLC based on the last film won’t get them much cash. Or the precious was lost.
