The Legend Of Zelda Wii U Delayed Until Next Year

Series producer, Eiji Aonuma, has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda Wii U will not be coming out in 2015 as previously announced, Nintendo also took to Twitter to confirm that the game will not appear at this years E3.

“In these last three months, as the team has experienced first-hand the freedom of exploration that hasn’t existed in any Zelda game to date, we have discovered several new possibilities for this game,” explained Aonuma. “As we have worked to turn these possibilities into reality, new ideas have continued to spring forth, it now feels like we have the potential to create something that exceeds even my own expectations.”

Aonuma stresses that the Zelda team are not treating the 2015 release window as their priority, but rather making the “most complete and ultimate Zelda game.” This news may come as a surprise to some. However, my impressions of the first gameplay footage release earlier this year were that, although beautiful, the game looked and felt really empty and further away from completion than they first anticipated.

  1. It’s no surprise given how little they’ve shown, but it’s definitely for the best. No day one patch here.

It’s a bit of a shame though, as now both of my two most anticipated games for the year (Zelda and Uncharted) have been delayed.

I wonder if Nintendo will delay a different title to serve as the new holiday seller, or if there’s a yet to be revealed game to take it’s place. Like Tropical Freeze did, before it’s delay.

  2. I was looking forward to playing this over Christmas but would much rather have a complete package than have them rush it out.

Starfox hasn’t been given a solid release date yet so maybe that might fill the gap that Zelda has left.

  3. Damn :( Oh well, the delay will no doubt result in a better game so I don’t mind too much. Makes budgeting for this year a little easier too ;)

Will be interesting to see what Nintendo now consider to be their big Christmas title. Starfox will no doubt be a big game in their late 2015 lineup but I’d imagine they will have something with a bit more wide-spread appeal lined up too.
