UK Charts 09/05/15: Project CARS On The Top Step

The big release of last week was naturally Project CARS, and it proved to be very popular as it zoomed straight in at number 1, toppling Mortal Kombat from the top spot in the process.

The rest of the top 20 is made up of many of the usual suspects, with GTAV, FIFA 15, CODAW and Battlefield Hardline all doing relatively well, but without many big new games, the second best new entry in the charts was Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush for Wii U, which came in 21st. Nintendo’s other release, Puzzle & Dragons Z + Super Mario Edition, hit 32nd place for the 3DS.

UKIE’s analysis also highlighted an unusual trend, as Skate 3 returned to the top 40, with almost a quarter of all sales of the 2010 game having occured since the turn of 2014. Very unusual, to say the least, but maybe that’s why Activision are trying to revive the Tony Hawk’s brand?

  1. Nice to see a crowd funded indie game at the top of the retail charts!
The irony is that it doesn’t need to be there to be profitable.

    • I thought it was funded by SEGA

      • Nope. It was one of the big crowdfunding success stories from a few years back, but with the difference that those that funded it were able to have a stake in the game’s eventual sales. Namco are then acting as the game’s distributor.

  2. Well deserved. PCARS is fantastic. Only played a few hours so far (I have it on PC) and the physics are unreal, or rather, very real!

  3. Well I was right with my Kirby prediction.

  4. A Project CARS review by now would have been nice. TSA seems to be well behind other sites in terms of reviews. Can anything be done to increase the number of reviews and get them out on time?

    • There’s been loads of stuff on here about pcar. TSA have done more than enough articles to make your mind up about getting it. They held off on a review until they’ve tried the online features.

      • Truth be told, I’ve kinda known I wanted to get it for some time now, just wanted to see some reviews before actually buying it. TSA is my favourite gaming site, and I was genuinely disappointed not to see a review on Friday. I understand the reasons behind it, but there have been many occasions when I’ve seen late reviews, sometimes none at all. It’s the only area where I feel TSA is a little lacking. Can’t always give positive feedback!

    • Our review is set for 3PM today, and as Camdaz said, a part of this was so that we could test the online gameplay after release. We do try and have reviews ready for when an embargo lifts, but if we feel it needs more time or there are mitigating circumstances, we will generally have an article of our early impressions from the game at that point and follow up with a scored review a little later.

But thanks for highlighting that perception for me, and I’ll try to take it more into account going forwards.

      • I’ll let you off, just this once, but please try not to let it happen again! :P

    • In terms of other reviews, it now seems to be the norm to only ship review codes on or very shortly before release day.For example, Project Root and the two Evil Within DLCS which I reviewed – we only got the codes for them on release day.

      • Is this because the publishers are worried that poor scores will potentially damage their sales, so they give out the codes late in order to delay the reviews? If so, that’s pretty low.
