Three years ago there was a rumour that Mafia 3 was in development for the newest generation of consoles. Since then there have been some apparent leaks relating to character bios for voice actor auditions, but Take Two Interactive has yet to confirm the existence of a third entry to the Mafia franchise. Mafia II will be turning five this August having released back in 2010, and in those years there has been plenty of time to work on the next chapter.
According to Daily Changes Take Two registered four new domains relating to Mafia 3 on June 25th, which could mean a reveal is around the corner.
If the five year anniversary is the target for announcement then Gamescom would be the likely candidate for the reveal, as that also falls in August though a couple of weeks ahead of the actual fifth birthday. Then again this could be Take Two Interactive protecting assets, and a reveal is still a long way off.

Mafia II, a game I put in the Disc drive and was expecting a Mafia themed GTA rip-off. Ended up not being able to put the pad down due to sublime story, great voice acting, fun gameplay, amazing atmosphere and a top notch soundtrack. Mafia III confirmation would have me very excited indeed.
