Xbox One To Windows 10 Game Streaming Now Live

Microsoft has announced that game streaming between Xbox One consoles and Windows 10 is now live, with all Xbox One owners being able to partake now as long as they have a Windows 10 device. Windows 10 won’t be fully released until July 29th, and it will be free to upgrade to for Windows 7, 8, & 8.1 users. However, there are some early users already using Microsoft’s latest operating system. The instructions on how to allow streaming are as follows.

On Xbox One go to  Settings then Preferences and select the option ‘Allow game streaming to other devices.’ Once this is done grab your Windows 10 device and update the Xbox app. Once updated open the app, go to Connect, and select the option to add a device then select your Xbox One. You can then attach either an Xbox 360 or Xbox One controller to the device and begin playing your Xbox One games via streaming.

The Windows 10 Xbox app has also received a lot of updates which are:

  • Party Chat – Above the Friends list is a new option labeled ‘Start a party (beta)’. This enables you to start a party chat with your Xbox friends across Xbox One and the Xbox App on Windows 10. Press ‘+’ to invite friends, and simply click on your friends to invite them to an online party.
  • My Games The app will support automated discovery of Windows Store games and a large number of older non-Windows store PC games so they get added automatically to your game collection within the Xbox app upon first launch.
  • Home  Enabled easy access to game streaming and allow quick launch of a game from the recently played list. Also, there is an updated featured games section on the home screen below your recently played list, which lets you discover and install new and popular games available from the Windows store.
  • Profile – You can choose to use your Avatar or gamerpic to be displayed to your Friends. Additionally, you can easily customize your Avatar, change your gamertag, gamerpic, and user color, and update your name sharing settings in one place under Customize.
  • Share with your friends – Coming in the July release, you can upload your local game clips and screenshots for Windows store games to your shared collection on Xbox Live.
  • Xbox Avatars – We are updating the Avatars app, so you can use the “Take a photo” feature and save a specific Avatar photo as your gamerpic.

  1. Very clever, considering the decent pricing of a lot of Windows tablets (ive got a Linx 8, its cracking!) maybe we can hope for more remote play competition ans support.

On the subject of Windows 10, does anyone know where you can order a copy? I asked at PC World last week, the response was a shoulder shrug and the suggestion I buy Windows 8 for almost twice the price its going for on Amazon. Er, no.

  2. I hate the Xbox menu, it takes ages just for me to work out how to start my game. If they can fix that, will be happy

    • It is very cluttered. Admittedly I don’t use my XB1 very often but when I do, the menu annoys the hell out of me. It’s fine if you’re just playing a game but trying to do/find anything else can be frustrating. I think if I spent more time with it I’d get used to it but I don’t find it very user friendly at all. Looking forward to the redesign.

    • You select the disc icon that is always in the bottom right oh the main screen. To find a game, go to “my games & apps” which is above the disc icon and it’ll be there. Come on it’s not exactly hidden away!

      • It’s not exactly a simple design is it for someone new to Xbox, not very welcoming

      • No not hidden away as such but going through my games and apps are a chore, especially when I want to have a blast with Titanfall which I have a digital copy of. As opposed to scrolling left on the homescreen of the PS4 menu.

The new dashboard coming this winter is a fresh start and is hopefully a bit more natural and intuitive.

      • or pin your games and apps to the dashboard.?
its no more confusing than the ps 4 dash..

      • Beej, pin the games & apps as wonkey says, then they’ll also be to the left as they are on PS4!

(press start on the app, then select pin to home)

  3. If the streaming is good quality, then this is pretty damn awesome when combined with a compatible tablet. Easily a replacement solution for my Vita if I end up selling it. In fact, I could probably just use the laptop with a W10 upgrade.

    • There’s a PS3 remote play program for Windows, it’s stupidly restricted to VAIOs but that can be worked around. It’s a shame Sony don’t do computers anymore otherwise I’m sure we’d see PS4 remote play in Windows too, maybe one day.

  4. Will have to try this out, I’ve got my laptop primed for win10.
