Nine Minutes Of Until Dawn Gameplay Has Abandoned Mine Exploration

Some more footage of Supermassive’s Until Dawn has been released, with a new segment of gameplay shown off. This time there are two characters exploring an abandoned mine together, and this section is a bit more subdued than the more well known chase that Hayden Panettiere’s character endures in another bit of game footage. This portion of gameplay is around nine minutes long, but it is unclear how far into the story this actually takes place.

There are some jump scares and obviously this will contain some spoilers, but this mine section seems to focus a lot more on the character relationships than the killer on the loose. Until Dawn will launch exclusively on PS4 August 26th in North America, and 28th in Europe.

  1. That looks awful. 9 minutes of watching a slightly controllable character walking in the footsteps of the NPC through a very tight path to encounter long sections of cut-scenes. I think I counted either 3 or 4 points where the player had to press X. Just make a movie and be done with it.

  2. Looks like Agent Ward from MARVEL’S S.H.I.E.L.D xD
Not getting this as I am getting Gears of War. Will get this dirt cheap in few months…. maybe around Christmas….. ah who knows.

  3. Well if we didn’t know already this just proves that there no decent writers left in the entertainment business.

I love these types of games but that dialogue is absolutely atrocious. “Whoa nelly, this place gives me the willies. Not the good kind of willies…” Seriously? Lets not use this as an example when the next ‘Gaming isn’t just for kids’ aritcle comes around.

Why make a game that appeals to a specific type of gamer and then allow a bunch of monkeys to write the script. It’s an 18 rated game for adults. This isn’t going to be on (m)any teenagers christmas lists so stop dumbing down the script, chasing a demographic you couldn’t appeal to even if the women spent the entire game walking around with their breasts out. I wouldn’t be surprised if that actually happens later in the story based on what I’ve just seen.

So disappointed they decided to create such generic stereotypes. Why not invest in smart, likeable characters that you actually care about. So when the killer does show up, you fight for your life so they might survive. Having spent just nine minutes with these two imbeciles, when the killer shows up, I’m going to stand still. Or run towards him.

If there aren’t any strong, likeable characters in the cast, I hope they let you play as the killer.

    • Having seen the narrow paths (‘on rails’?) these characters have to tread I would be very surprised if the game would allow you to stand still when the killer attacks. I reckon it would take control of your character in pretty much every scene right up until the final confrontation, by which time no one is playing any more…
