Warhammer 40K RPG Gameplay Surfaces, Chainswords And All

Amidst the chaos of last week’s Gamescom in Cologne, developer Neocore Games gave fans a first look at its upcoming action RPG set in the 40K universe. Warhammer 40,000 Inquisitor – Martyr will have players exploring a grim sci-fi landscape populated by deranged cults, mowing them down using one of several Space Marine heroes.

It features a story-driven campaign mode as well as more free-form method of play. This latter option allows you to explore randomly generated maps, slaying enemies and completing objectives along the way.

Being an action RPG, Martyr has already been likened to genre flagships such as Diablo, Path of Exile, and Dungeon Siege. Though they have a lot in common, Neocore’s Viktor Juhasz stresses that the team have tried to put a new spin on the ARPG formula. For example, Martyr will feature a deliberately nuanced colour palette as well as a cover-shooting mechanic.

The game is currently pegged for a 2016 release on PC as well as PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
