Imagine the horror when, having digitally pre-ordered your game – and Until Dawn is already a scary game – you come to launch day and it won’t let you play? Instead, your PlayStation 4 is quite adamant that you must wait another 128 days before you can play what you’ve bought. It’s the stuff of quite depressingly tame nightmares, but it’s also an unfortunate reality for some.
Thankfully, Sony’s PlayStation Store team have come up with a workaround for those affected:
- Navigate to the item on the PlayStation Store
- Purchase the free version of Until Dawn (or if you have that already, another free game/item such as Singstar)
- Download the file to your system (if the file is already downloaded and installed, please skip this step and move to step 4)
- Use the Restore Licenses option by navigating to Settings >> PlayStation(tm)Network/Account Management >> Restore Licenses
- Attempt to boot the game. If the game still does not boot at this point, delete the file, re-download and repeat step 4.
The reports of this error stemmed from yesterday’s Tuesday launch, while the game is out today in mainland Europe and on Friday in the UK, so hopefully those of us in the EU will be able to avoid similar issues.
Even so, it’s another disappointing sign of how rickety some parts of the PlayStation Store can be, especially when it comes to pre-orders…

This type of error keeps cropping up unfortunately.
Hopefully Sony get on top of it.
MOVE
Strange; I preordered yesterday and started downloading at midnight. This morning it started up with no problems at all. As per usual (and strangely) it only seems to be a problem for some.
