Last week EA announced that Star Wars Battlefront would be getting a beta on PS4, Xbox One, and PC in early October. The modes that were confirmed included Walker Assault on Hoth as well as Drop Zone, though details on the second game type weren’t released at the time. Today EA & DICE have lifted the lid on what players can expect from Drop Zone, which will be an 8 vs 8 eight mode.
Drop Zone focuses on pods falling out of the sky with both teams fighting to capture them. The win conditions for the mode require a team to capture five of the pods, but if that isn’t done within the time limit of ten minutes then the team with the highest amount wins. Pods will contain Power Pickups so waiting for one to open up and claiming whatever is inside could help change the face of a battle.
If a stalemate is detected where two teams are constantly fighting over the same pod another one will drop into the map, meaning there could be two pods to fight over at the same time. DICE has stated that trying to engage in camping in this mode will usually be a bad idea, with moving around being a much better survival technique.

They keep saying how bad camping is in all their game modes for this. Was this their perceived number one complaint for BF4 I wonder?

Maybe they want to encourage big epic firefights, as opposed to going for K/D records. I didn’t find campers a particular problem in BF4, the size of the maps helped in this greatly. And it was very satisfying to hunt snipers.

That doesn’t sound like any situation I can recall from any Star Wars movie. I hope it has an air of Star Wars authenticity apart from the skins and maps.

True, the Imperials were massive campers, they built a bloody massive camping battle moon to camp in. Bastards.

sounds familiar?
a bit like dropzone in cod!

Oh, how disappointing. I thought it would be like that scene in Starship troopers where shuttles are dropped into the combat zone to begin and reinforcments are continually being dropped in thus needing to find a way to destroy the star destroyers. Of course, had they allowed space-ground combat, it would made sense. Instead, it’s a glorified capture the flag mode. The disappointment is strong with this one.
