Star Wars Battlefront Beta Begins On October 8th

EA has announced that the Star Wars Battlefront beta will begin on October 8th and will last until October 12th. The beta will be available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC via Origin. During the beta the Battlefront Companion will also be available via the official site, and this gives access to the Base Command strategy card game, customisation of your gear and soldier, and progression stats.

The content the Battlefront beta will be:

  • Walker Assault on Hoth: Fight in epic 40-player battles as a Rebel to destroy the Empire’s onslaught of AT-AT’s by calling in Y-wing bombers. Or, side with the Empire and protect your walkers while utilizing their mighty weaponry to crush the Rebel objective.
  • Drop Zone on Sullust: Escape pods are crashing down and you and your team must fight to control them. With its frantic 8v8 matches, Drop Zone is sure to put your combat and strategy skills to the test.
  • Survival Mission on Tatooine: Play alone or with a friend via co-op or split-screen as you battle to hold off waves of Imperial forces including AT-ST’s, TIE fighters, elite stormtroopers and more.

The beta is open to all and will weigh in at 7GB on consoles while the PC version will be approximately 11GB, with pre-load being available on Origin on October 7th. The level cap in the Battlefront beta is set at five, though you will be able to unlock items even when reaching that point.  However your stats and progression will not carry over to the full release.

  1. 7GB is not bad, can manage that with plenty of time to play, so I’ll look forward to trying this out.

  2. I’ve just booked a broadband fibre upgrade so hopefully it will be ready in time for this.
I presume soldier/gear customisation and progression stats will be accessible in-game too?

    • I find the problem isn’t my broadband connection but the abysmal performance of PSN for downloads these days. :(

      • PSN Downloads speeds are variable for me but i frequently get lag when playing online and live streaming my gameplay is impossible on my current connection.

  3. Fantastic! I should have internet again by next Friday, hopefully it’s as fast as uswitch suggested and wont top out at a woeful 1.3Mbps as Sky seem to think it will. Does anyone know if you can even pay BT to get exchanges and cabling upgraded to boost speeds to a whole road or estate? Not that I would, just interested.

    • Best that can be done is a new phone line if it is needed. That can cost depending on who you are with, and it doesn’t change the line that comes to your house, just the line along side your house, like on the outside wall.

Out of curiosity, is that definitely 1.3Mbps or 1.3MB/s?

      • I very much doubt that ron_mcphatty would be complaining about poor speeds if he were receiving 1.3MBs.

      • True enough, but Sky suggesting something along the lines of 1.3Mbps is harsh to say the least. Although some parts of Britain barely get internet at all so I’ve heard.

      • It’s definitely the slower speed. Our block of flats was awful but I think it was internal wiring that caused problems, we got up to 4.5Mbps after the exchange was upgraded, only about 1 when we first moved in! Just moved to an old estate and uswitch says the average is 17Mbps but Sky’s line test says 1.5 is all we will get. We also can’t get Virgin for some reason so I guess we will see what happens when the switch gets flung.

      • Oh, as I was typing that up my wife opened a letter from Sky, we’re connected! 4Mbps, almost what we had before, not bad, good enough for YouTube, Netflix and the PSN.

  4. Haven’t been following this at all but I’ll give it a whirl.

  5. I see that there’s a very good Battlefront:Star Wars area at EGX, along with a very large Tie Fighter. Peow, peow!

  6. I’ll be carting my PS4 to my brothers. My laughable 1.7meg will take until the 12th just to download that (better switch to fiber at some point.)
