Square Enix Backtracks On Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Pre-Order Scheme

When Square Enix announced the February 23rd release date for Deus Ex, it came with a twist in the tail, as they also unveiled a rather unusual and objectionable pre-order scheme. As more people pre-ordered the game digitally, this would unlock more tiers of bonus content for people to choose from. Needless to say, this didn’t exactly go down too well, when pre-order bonuses are already somewhat controversial amongst the more vocal gamers.

Thankfully, Square have seen the criticism and reacted:

In a post on the game’s news page, Square and Eidos Montreal explained that, “we wanted the program to give you more choice about what you received in terms of pre-order incentives – because we’ve seen in the past that when we choose those packages ourselves, and split them across regions, it has caused frustration.”

The negative feedback has seen them rethink their attempts at solving this problem, and as such they are closing down the programme. Instead, anyone who pre-order the game or buys a Day 1 edition of the game will get all of the pre-order bonuses. The game will also now be available for everyone on February 23rd, rather than having a potential head start for pre-orders.

  1. Ex-Deus Ex Machinations?

  2. How about, stop releasing ‘exclusive’ on the disc dlc and release a full game with content that wasn’t stripped just to make a few extra £s.

  3. I thought they’d do this. The scheme before was ridiculous.
