Konami has announced it has partnered with prosthetic artist Sophie De Oliviera Barata to create a prosthetic arm modelled on the one featured in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The recipient of this arm will be James Young, who lost his arm and leg after a London DLR train managed to pull him onto the track between two carriages as it pulled into the station. A documentary is being filmed to follow the journey of the arm’s build, and its use once it is given to James. The documentary is stated to be released in January.
Sophie De Oliviera Barata has extensive experience in the field of prosthetics, and founded the Alternative Limb Project which gives those who need prosthetic limbs a choice in how they are designed. She has designed many limbs including the crystal leg used by Viktoria Modesta at the closing ceremony of the 2012 Paralympic Games.
