Just one week after release Call of Duty: Black Ops III has been knocked off the top spot by Bethesda’s Fallout 4.  Rise of the Tomb Raider débuts in fourth place behind the aforementioned CoD and FIFA 16.  Fallout 4 has beaten the sales of previous series entry, Fallout: New Vegas by 213%.
There’s another new entry in seventh place for Football Manager 2016 whilst further down the charts we have a surprising re-entry for Killzone: Shadow Fall, and Transformers: Devastation also makes a reappearance.

Yes. Go Bethesda and haha Activision. Not being against it just that there always get high reviews and and it is a yearly franchise and full of kids under the age of 18 is what annoys me.
Heard a mother took her 16 year old to CoD Midnight launch on a School night! Same as before last year etc….

I have been reading some worrying reports on ROTTR that it has of this moment sold only 57,000 copies! Square Enix thought the reboot selling 3.4mil was bad, would love to be a fly on the wall in their boardroom!
hornet1990
If true then I hope the cheque they got from MS was worth it! Would also love to know if there are any clauses allowing them to put it out on PS4 sooner if particular sales targets aren’t met…

There is. It’s the timed exclusive bs that i hate. :( It’s usually a solid X timed on Xbox before release.
I hate to be the person that authorised the deal as they must be getting a right talking to by their bosses. That and they probably can’t afford to hire strippers to cosplay as Lara Croft to celebrate the success. :P
hornet1990
The timed exclusivity wouldn’t mean a thing though if there is a clause like I described, as it would be voided by the failure to meet sales targets.
And to think they thought they could challenge Uncharted 4 with RotTR ;)
To be fair they’ll probably pick up a lot more sales over the xmas period but such a lackluster launch doesn’t bode well.
Lets hope they have the PS4 version under active development and ready to go as soon as they can…

But even with a fat cheque there is a lot more I believe to sales. I mean: getting the franchise name out there, merchandise and so on. I believe this was a hugely bad decision that ripples down to a lot of smaller things.
Starman
That’s just the UK sales! 63k I read with 85% on x1. Given it’s released at a very packed time of year I think it’ll have a steady rate of sales for months as people finish CoD/Halo 5/Star Wars/Fallout or whatever else they’re playing first.
Tuffcub
60K is fine. Halo 5 only sold about 120K on the week of release, and that’s a much bigger franchise. Tomb Raider isnt a “Must have”. It will have shifted about 1.5-2m copies worldwide during week of release, which is fine.
Starman
For clarity, the Tomb Raider reboot sold 170k on release which was obviously to a huge install base of 360’s & PS3’s, so to sell a third of that to a much smaller install base isn’t so bad. Plus it was against Fallout 4! I’m sure the doom mongers will see it another way though. And it’s a fantastic game which is what matters the most.
Avenger
Yeah to be honest, I’m rather surprised at just how many good things I’ve heard about the game and there’s lots out there eager to play it, so I’m not surprised it’s done relatively well. Relative being the operative word when there’s been so many other mammoth releases.
We just mustn’t forget the roves of people that want it to fail in a hissy fit over timed exclusivity, correct that, timed exclusivity on Xbox One. Please people, appreciate the games, not the bloody consoles and the little internet wars around them.
Starman
Exactly, nice post!
I was always getting it as I really enjoyed the reboot and haven’t been disappointed. Plus I’m not that into the other big releases at the moment so had no trouble finding the time to play it.

Im just sorry that the latest tomb raider game is marred by so much nagativity due to the exclusivity agreement. They tainted the brand imo.
