The Last Of Us Movie Has Entered A Development Hell

A little over two years ago there was confirmation that there was going to be a The Last Of Us movie, with Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann helming the script writing for it. Sam Raimi was slated to be directing the big screen adaptation too. The plan was to adapt Joel and Ellie’s story for film with some changes to fit the medium. The last big piece of news relating to the movie appeared in December 2014, when Game Of Thrones star Maisie Williams expressed interest in the role of Ellie.

You’d think in that time there would have been a little bit more progress, but if you’re waiting on a The Last Of Us movie then don’t hold your breath. Speaking to IGN Neil Druckmann had the following to say.

“I know I said in an interview a while back we had a table read, got the script to a good place and it kind of entered development hell like these things tend to do. There hasn’t been any work done on it in over a year and a half.”

He also had a few words to say about the Uncharted movie, which has had quite a few delays and twists.

“Every once in a while they’ll come in and they’ll present to us: here’s the script, here’s what we’re thinking. We’ll tell them what we think works, what we think doesn’t work. That’s where we’re at. Last I heard is they got a new screenwriter, but we haven’t seen anything in a while.”

The current release date for the Uncharted movie is June 30th 2017.

  1. The honesty is good to see. Also, I hope they’re unscrupulous with their quality control – just like in their franchise.

  2. Mad Max:Fury road could arguably have been in development hell, for several years nothing happened, then later on, some scenes they had were completely re-shot.

    Just for perspective.

  3. There’s a TLOU movie?

Get the Hound’s actor in as Joel and we’ll get more adventures of Aarya Stark and the focking Hound! :P

Not a good sign for UC due to it being out next year and I can see both TLOU and UC being canned as movies due to ND’s standards not being fufilled by the script writers.

Or someone nicks the script and it somehow causes all of hollywood to get sucked into a giant sinkhole.
