Movies based on games are nothing new. The majority of them are considered poor representations of the source material, with the search for a good one continuing. This year sees hopes resting on Warcraft and Assassin’s Creed, both of which have big budgets and big fanbases to please. The Angry Birds movie is already out and currently sits at a 56% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
A movie taking Tetris as its source material though seems a bizarre. It isn’t like there is a huge plot or lore behind the puzzle game, but it’s coming and it has a budget of $80 million set by Threshold Global Studios. The film isn’t set to go into production until 2017, with much of the filming to be done on location in China.
The Tetris movie is going to be a sci-fi thriller, and it is hoped will be the beginning of a trilogy.

That looks better than the new Ghostbusters.

Perhaps it’s just a metaphor for my life story where I do what I should, prepare everything meticulously (build rows x4 high), but when the right opportunity comes along (that 4-length-piece!), I just miss the target, it basically fucks everything, then it all spirals out of control very fast and I have to start over.

That’s quite sad dude, I feel for you, and so do the sad violins playing the Tetris tune in my head.

Apparently this is just to fund a trilogy of movies called Tic, Tac and Toe.
