As expected a new Sonic the Hedgehog game will be out in 2017. Takashi Iizuka, top dog when it comes to all things Sonic, announced the news during the celebrations of Sonic’s 25th birthday.
A full reveal will occur during the Sonic the Hedgehog 25th Anniversary Party in San Diego on July 22nd, which will be live streamed on Twitch.
Sega’s Chief Brand Officer Ivo Gerscovich recently explained that they want to go back to creating quality Sonic games. “One of the things about Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice is that we held the title for a year, which is not something SEGA has traditionally done,” he said “But this focus on quality is really about trying to take Sonic back to where it used to be.”
“We are really focussed on turning Sonic into an entertainment icon, not just a games icon,” he added

So does that mean Lego Dimension Sonic so going to be next year now?
Remains to be seen if it’ll be good like Generations or not. Rumours were (at one point) of a Generations 2 for the 25th anniversary.

I really enjoyed Generations, it’s hard to believe it’s five years since that came out! I dunno how they’ve missed the mark so often and then managed to get Generations almost perfect, hopefully they’ll do it again.

Considering that Sonic is a washed up 90s star nowadays that sells his body for onion rings on teh street, i wouldn’t worry about being an entertaintment icon. Focus on rebuilding him as the 90s legend.
However, he did hang around with a minor in the 90s. That’s tend to be awful 9/10 times.
