COD: Infinite Warfare PC Multiplayer Doesn’t Work Between Windows Store And Steam Copies

Getting Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on PC? It’s out today – check out our review! – but if you plan to get stuck into the multiplayer, be aware that multiplayer on the Windows 10 Store and Steam are separate from one another. The game’s FAQ says:

Can I play Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered for Windows 10 on Windows Store with my friends that are playing on another PC platform?

No, you can only play these titles with other users of Windows 10 on Windows Store.

Effectively pinning the blame on Activision, Microsoft said to Windows Central that “We support cross-play between devices and platforms for partners who want to enable it.” Indeed, the upcoming Gwent card game from The Witcher developers CD Projekt Red supports cross platform play between Windows Store, Xbox One and standard Win32 versions of the game, and a Windows Central source has said that this is a decision made by Activision.

Hopefully Activision will see that this is a little bit silly and reverse that decision.

  1. How the fuck did they?

I mean, what the hell!? It’s not like they are two platforms. It’s two different sources and how the hell did they feck it up? Did someone go “You know, Steam and Windows shouldn’t work. Let’s stab our users in the back!” at Activision?

Seriously, how is this a good idea? They must be aware that IW is going to struggle a lot, the MW thing caused a lot of outrage and now, this? Are they actually sabotaging it?

I hope this won’t be the start of split stuff on PC as I would be furious if I paid for something on Steam and went to play MP only to find out that because I have a steam copy, i can’t play it with me mates.

Seriously? How did they do this? It’s beyond stupid. It’s beyond daft. It’s probably the dumbest thing to happen to a game this year.

And there has been a lot of dumb crap this year.

Acti, you realise this is pretty much your only cash cow? It’s nearing the end but you may have just killed it.

I am doubtful that Valve decided to turn into arseholes as well, that would damage them even more.

  2. Wait, people actually voluntarily choose the Windows Store over Steam?! Wow.

    • Yes, they do.

We don’t speak about those people around here.
