Sony Take The PlayStation 4 Pro Apart Piece By Piece

If only Sony made their consoles with the gloriously tacky translucent plastic cases that I so fondly remember from limited edition consoles of the late 90s, there wouldn’t be as much need for Keiichi Aoki, Director of Mechanical Design, to take a PlayStation 4 Pro apart on video.

But there’s some nice technical insights that the video does provide. For example, the fan in the Pro is 10mm larger than that of the original PS4, and it’s interesting to see how the internal components are all laid out.

But I’m now wondering what happened to the console after this video. Was it put back together again? Has it been put back to work or retired to live out an easy life just playing back the occasional Netflix video? These are important questions, so we’ve reached out to Sony to try and find out.*

  1. They took it out the back and shot it

    • It was the kindest thing to do.

  2. You can’t have an “occasional Netflix video”, surely? The poor thing will be complaining about being made to show 7 episodes of something in a row.

There must be some way to play a Youtube video backwards though, surely? Then you can watch a man with weirdly hairy hands put a PS4 together.

    • Some say when you play it backwards it’s in English!

  3. It’s a ridiculously compact machine, like laptop compact. It’s interesting that the ethos seems to be on small form factor rather than perhaps a little more space for cooling and what not.

  4. There’s a heck of a lot of shielding in the PS4 Pro.

Having both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz Wifi makes a big difference to the PS Store loading times. It was really slow on my launch day model.

  5. Interesting to see this but I was slightly distracted by this guys hands which are possibly the hairiest hands I’ve ever seen. Nothing wrong with that but I did keep watching right to the end in the hope that he might fully transform into the wearwolf from American Wearwolf In London. He didn’t :(
