Pokémon Go’s Improved ‘Nearby’ System Goes Live In The UK

A big part of the initial pitch for Pokémon Go was that it would take you off the beaten path and have you tramping out to specific places in order to track down specific Pokémon. At launch that manifest itself as three little footprints by a Pokémon in the ‘Nearby’ window of the app, but with the severe load the servers were dealing with and the vagueness of this indicator, Niantic pulled the feature promising that something better was in the works.

The improved Nearby feature is now live in the UK, having previously only been tested in San Francisco. It’s pretty straightforward as well, with each Pokémon in the Nearby window appearing next to an image associated with a specific Pokéstop. Head to that spot and the Pokémon ought to be lurking nearby.

Niantic have started to push some major new patches and updates, with the recent appearance of Ditto and dataminers finding mention of second generation Pokémon. With last week’s release of Pokémon Sun & Moon for 3DS, it’s quite well timed, but at the same time, maybe it’s just a little too late for some?

  1. When they updated the app to block rooted phones I deleted it on the spot.

Mainly because I couldn’t open it.

I could have hidden my root access but it’s not worth it as I’ll only have to deal whatever the next roadblock they throw at users is.

I’m still angry at that move though. They cut off a large chunk of the user base without warning, many of whom would have bought their in app purchases. Pretty despicable.

  2. Ive had complete failure of the app today. When the 7th or 8th attempt to load has worked it refused to have a GPS signal so completely pointless so I’ve now deleted the buggy game.
