Nintendo Announce Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia

ell, I certainly didn’t see this one coming. A brand new entry in the Fire Emblem franchise is coming to the 3DS. I say brand new, but really it’s a remake of Fire Emblem Gaiden – a Japanese exclusive for the NES.

The trailer that debuted during the Nintendo Direct shows the story, which has siblings Dima and Mila create two kingdoms. Mila’s kingdom of Zofia is overcome with greed, while Duma’s kingdom of Valentia is a warmongering nation. Tensions are growing between the two nations.

Protagonists Alm – a Fighter, and Celica – a Priestess are apparently caught up in the ensuing conflict. Gameplay will feature the classic Fire Emblem style of combat, but will include dungeon crawling sections in 3D – battles are mini-skirmishes of tactical battles – and characters will have flexible character creation.

Animation from Studio Khara will feature in the final release, together with fully voiced dialogue. Launching alongside this will be two Amiibo depicting the two protagonists. As for when we’ll see it, Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia will launch on 3DS on May 19th 2017.

[UPDATE: Nintendo have released images of the two Amiibos.]
