Ubisoft Announce A New Game Based On The Avatar Franchise

Ubisoft have set Massive Entertainment the task of creating a new game based on James Cameron’s Avatar movies. Massive were the team who created The Division and are now working on the AAA game set on Pandora for consoles and PC. The title will “expand and deepen” the Avatar universe along with the four (!) sequels currently in production.

“What impressed me about Massive were the group’s passion for this project and the power of its Snowdrop engine,” said Cameron. “I believe Ubisoft’s team at Massive Entertainment are absolutely the right partners to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life”

You may recall a game based on the first movie back in 2009 created by Ubisoft Montreal, it wasn’t particularly outstanding but managed to shift 2.7 million units in the end which is probably why Ubisoft held on to the franchise.

  1. The world, itself, is staggeringly well-fleshed out. I’d be up for a game in this universe. Just make it a good ‘un. :-)

  2. Really enjoyed the 2009 game but I think that was more to do with being in the Avatar world, rather than the game actually being any good.

I hope they focus on the Single player experience with this new game and not turn this into The Division on Pandora. Although sadly, I think ‘The Division on Pandora’ is exactly what we’ll get. James Cameron likes to think of himself as a pioneer of the future so he probably thinks single player games are ‘so yesterday’. He is the king of the world I guess.

  3. Well this is a good sign that the next film is on the horizon! I might stick it on this weekend for some nostalgia, I can’t believe it’s eight years old now.

  4. Be nice if they fix the rampant afk abuse in for honor….not buying another Ubi game unless they start dealing with these issues.

  5. Well, at least it will matches the film franchise with the release dates. 4 back to back sequels. The 2009 game had the easiest trophy, i think. It literally just required you to press start and i think, was regarded as a stupidly easy plat.

The question I have for Ubisoft is: Is this a shovelware franchise or is this gonna to be a proper attempt? Because if it is shovelware, what a waste of cash. People will easily see the trailer and then they will bugger off if it is rubish.

But at least it is post Ubitowers. Right? Ubisoft aren’t doing that anymore, right? RIGHT!?

    RIIIIIIIIGHT!?
