Update:Â The trailer for Darksiders 3 has been released, though it doesn’t show the gameplay, so you’ll have to refer to the original story below to see screenshots of that.
The Darksiders franchise is back thanks to a leak via Amazon and it has a new twist. Previous protagonists War and Death have been ditched and you will now play as the female, whip-wielding mage called Fury.
- Play as FURY – a mage who must rely on her whip and magic to restore the balance between good and evil on Earth!
- Harness FURY’s magic to unleash her various forms – each granting her access to new weapons, moves and traversal abilities
- Explore an open-ended, living, free-form game world in which FURY moves back and forth between environments to uncover secrets while advancing the story
- Defeat the Seven Deadly Sins and their servants who range from mystical creatures to degenerated beings
- Darksiders signature art style – expansive post-apocalyptic environments that take the player from the heights of heaven to the depths of hell, dilapidated by war and decay and overrun by nature
Amazon also have some images, however someof these appear to be concept art rather than screens.
Amazon are listing the game for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, with a release date of next year. The game appears to be being developed by Gunfire Games, the team who remastered Darksiders II.

After so many re-releases and remasters from THQ Nordic, nice to see they have lead up to a full-blown newly developed sequel. Now fingers crossed for Red Faction, MX vs ATV and Destroy all Humans too.

Think you mean Death has been ditched, not Fury. Though it’s not really a case of ditching the previous characters, more that each of the four Horsemen are getting a game each. War was the first, then Death. Would’ve been a bit strange to not use another one.

Is that a re-imagining of Death in the last photo?
Loved these games so delighted to see this come out. Always thought they should finish off the 4 stories so fingers crossed!

Why do you say ditched, when each game contained a different main lead. According to THQ/Nordic, each game was meant to have one of each 4 horseman & eventually lead up to something big
JR.
Never thought we’d get another entry to the Darksiders games so this is great news.
I really liked the first one and really liked [parts of] the second one.
It will be interesting to see things from a female characters perspective.

This was a nice surprise!
Reading the description makes it sound like it’s going be more like the Zelda-esque first game than the Diablo-like second entry in the series.
Now THQ Nordic need to get someone to make a follow up to Red Faction Guerrilla.

Glad to see Darksiders make a return. Come to think of it, it’s been a while since we last had a good character action game of this type.

I actually want this and I’m hoping for a Switch version. Darksiders 2 on the Wii U was ace.

Fury isn’t an apocalyptic horsemen.
Pestilence
War
Famine
Death
Aran Suddi
In DS lore Famine and Pestilence have been replaced by Fury and Strife.
The Lone Steven
Nick Fury and Cloud Strife are appearing in DS3!? :D Awesome!
…
Yes, it’s an easy joke. I have no shame.
da_siz
i was thinking exactly the same thing…
We’re they referenced as fury and strife in the other games?
kjkg
I believe so. I even think Fury was referred to as female also but struggling to find a source for that one so take it with a pinch of salt.
Also, they had to change Famine to Fury. Not sure how exciting running about with scales as a weapon would really be.
