Need For Speed 2017 Will Bring Back Singleplayer

With a new Need For Speed on the way, Ghost Games has posted a small blog, briefly outlining what to expect from the upcoming sequel.

In short, it sounds very similar to what’s come before – unless the studio has a massive surprise up its sleeve, that is. Expect a heavy focus on car customisation, cop chases, and unrivalled racing visuals.

One thing Ghost Games did want to make clear, however, was that it will offer a singleplayer option. Recent instalments, including Rivals and 2015’s Need For Speed were always-online affairs in which players shared an open world.

Whether or not this, among other innovations, will put Need For Speed back on par with Forza, Gran Turismo, and more recent racing series, will be interesting to see. We’ll hopefully hear a lot more on the road to E3 2017.

  1. Finally! Now I can keep the game and play it again in 10 years time…. Online Only! Is a bad idea…. Ubisoft please take note! Aswell as other Developers out there.
    Whoo Happy Days!

  2. Good. I don’t mind persistent multiplayer but the lack of pause is crippling, especially for those of us with kids, bladders, thirst, hunger, wives, husbands, nympho mistresses, cats, dogs, gimps, and bed times. The only person I think who can cope without a pause button is Robocop. On a more serious note, NFS is usually a lot of fun, especially the Criterion games, and to those of us who occasionally mutter ‘Ride or die’ or ‘I’m in your face!’ this is all good news.

    • Robocop still eats, he consumes baby food. How he poops is a mystery though.

  3. I received an email from EA pointing me to the Ghost Games blog and was very happy to see ‘single player’ and ‘offline’ together. So EA do take note of the surveys they send out!

I wasn’t going to bother with this game but after those three little words I’ll be taking an interest in it.

  4. I havent bought the latest one for this reason and I didnt realise Rivals was online only?! Better fet my monies worth. Hate it. Exactly why I dont have garden warfare either. Get rid ans give us our games back a little more please!

    • Rivals is not online only. It starts the game like that but you can change to ‘Private’ or offline if you like. It still does not allow you to pause.

  5. I did some online surveys recently from EA about NFS games asking various questions about story/gameplay and where it could be improved,so at least they’re listening!
Also got asked about a new Fight Night game.
