When Ubisoft announced specific details surrounding its latest Far Cry game, it didn’t take long for disgruntled, rightward-leaning critics to come out of the woodwork. Set in what appears to be present-day Montana, players will go after a group of religious extremists terrorising Hope County.
It’s a fascinating change of focus and one that’s uncomfortably relevant in today’s political climate. That said, a number of American gamers aren’t too happy, one going as far as starting a petition.
In short, it calls for the cancellation of Ubisoft sequel, or at least significant changes to where the game is set and who it casts as the lead villains. Suggestions include swapping out christian zealots for Islamic extremists, also removing links to white supremacist movements by throwing in some “blacks and Mexicans”.
Although it reads like satire (the latter half or paragraph two might be a giveaway), there’s a chance this could be completely legit. That said, with Ubisoft planning to launch next February, it will take a lot more than 1,000 signatures and the racist ramblings of a moron to derail a bold change in direction for the Far Cry franchise.

Yes, Ubisoft is attacking America and going for something unique instead of it being set on an island and dealing with pirates, a tyrant’s royal army. And yes, let’s throw in some of the things mentioned. Because erm….
er…..
Fuck off. I was aiming to be sarcastic with this comment but this is stupid. This is dumb. This is….. idiots.
Rarely, does a game tackle religous zealots in America. Heck, the last game that did it that I can think of is Bioshock Infinite and that was set in early 20th century.
Are these people really complaining that a bunch of white supramcists being the main antagonists is the worst thing to happen? Or…oh… I get it.
Because it’s white americans, it is suddenly evil. EVIIL! But if it was mexcians, islamic terrorists, it would be ok.
That is fucking stupid, racist and just no. So what if the main bulk of the enemies are going to be christian zealots? So fecking what? GTA has been making fun of things like this for a long time. GTA also takes place in America.
The petition is stupid. The people behind it come off as er… racist arseholes who feel threatened because a game dares to do a unique concept and isn’t doing the typical setting outside america.
This is the dumbest outrage since the whole “WTF!? WHY ARE BRITS BEING KILLED!?” in AC3. I bet these are the same people who whined about Watch Dogs 2’s main protag. Same with anything that *gasps* dares to do something different instead of being generic.
The concept is an interesting one and Far Cry has changed a lot. It isn’t afraid to explore new concepts for it’s games and this may be the Rambo game that we all wanted but never got.
…..
They’ll try to get the orange moron in the whitehouse to ban it aren’t they?
Oh and i’m going to repeat this again, this is a stupid racist thing. The petition, i mean.
In fact, I’m going to petition a change for TSA due to a severe lack of nutters on the staff and to forcefully take over the chronicles thus bring back my madness to TSA. Yes, it’s a waste of time but if this can exist, i see no reason why i can’t do one. In fact, my petition makes even more sense and is even more reasonable as it is a joke. The fact that this FC5 one is not a joke is….
just sod off.
Oh and i’ve heard claims that it’s “Lefist propaganda.” How the….
MrYd
No. Please let it be real.
If the idiots are busy signing stupid petitions, it (a) stops them doing any real damage, and (b) gives sensible people something entertaining to laugh at.
But I suspect it’s not entirely serious, although some people seem to think it is. Or their comments are supposed to be satirical. It’s pretty much impossible to tell these days. Trump and Brexit and all the associated racism might just be one massive internet joke that’s gone horribly wrong.
So yeah, it’s probably a joke, but it’s attracted a few idiots taking it seriously, and some people who aren’t who could probably have found a more subtle, less offensive way to try and be funny.

I disagree with you I’m excited for this game I hope it’s not real!

The paths of free publicity are many and varied.

There is far too much irony spilling out of the petition for it to be serious, it is definitely a satire!
JR.
Probably some workshy Lefty or student with too much time on their hands tbf. They’re usually the one’s signing petitions and staging violent protests in their quest to be the most righteous. LOL #Riiiight

Can’t tell if this is a joke or not.
Erm….. *insert that fry meme here*
ron_mcphatty
Let’s hope the nasty zealots who get outraged by this game don’t hurt anyone.

An unwanted force trying to takeover a beloved homeland, ordinary people from the same area standing up to their oppressors…
Absolutely nothing to do with the hostile takeover of Ubisoft (based in France) by Vivendi (based in France) at all.

I would not be at all surprised if this was started by Ubi themselves, just for the free advertising..
