You Will Need 100GB Free On Your Hard Drive For Forza 7 In 4K

With great power comes great responsi… No, wait, that’s wrong. With great power comes absolutely mahooosive file sizes. A listing on the official Microsoft Windows store shows that Forza 7 will clock in at 100GB.

As the Xbox One X is just a PC in a nice box, you can expect the console version to be of similar size. The current version of the Xbox One OS and features take up around 138gb, so with that and Forza 7 you will have used around 25% of all the space available.

  1. Time to upgrade your… Thumbnail. It’s got a PS3 on TC ;)

  2. “Xbox One OS takes up around 138gb” Really?!? Even a vanilla Windows 10 install is only around 12GB.

    • “This is because your Xbox One’s 500 GB hard drive can only technically store only 362GB of content. This is because the Xbox One reserves the remaining space for its OS and other unknown functions.”

      500-362 = 138GB of Xbox OS stuff

And yes I know its not exactly 500 before anyone gets pedantic, it’s close enough.

      • Probably an amount is reserved for recording gameplay ready for sharing and the method of formatting will take up some of that 500GB. Still seems quite a lot.

      • Yeah it’s not the actual OS code taking up the space, it’s reserved space for DVR, Apps, meta data etc.

      • It depends what the say when they say 500Gb – 500Gb is actually really only 465Gb because they don’t count the bytes as 1024x1024x1024 x 500, instead is (1000x1000x1000) * 500 (Hard disk display sizes as metric gigabyte, operating systems report space as binary gigabytes (also known as gibibyte of GiB – to people who have a hardon for metric systems, don’t understand base 2, and has to redefine the definition of Gigabyte to a base10 value.)

And yes whilst I’m being pedantic :D that difference gets further and further apart as you get higher disk sizes, so a Terabyte drive is 931Gb …. which isn’t what I’d call ‘close enough’, it’s enough to cause significant confusion.

  3. No surprise. That’s 4K textures for you.

  4. Jesus… If they haven’t improved the install times on the XONEBOXONEBOX X, it will be a week before you can play it. Think Driveclub was about 17GB.

  5. The Xbone One X only has 1TB? My PS4 has 2TB. ;o)

    • Yeah, so in 10 games time your one x HDD will be full!

      • I’ve got 50 games on my 2TB Xbox One S. Some of them between 90-130GB. Seems okay for me.

  6. Afaik Blurays hold about 50GB. Does this mean that many 4K retail games could end up being a 2-disc install?

    • You can get triple-layer discs (100 GB) and quadruple layers (128 GB) but don’t know if the one x can read them.

      • Hopefully, not that 2 discs would be the end of the world just less than ideal.

    • More likely to be 50GB on the disc and then download the rest. It’s happened before.

      • I’d be surprised if they didn’t make all the 4K assets an optional download just for One X users.

  7. Being exactly 100.0gb sound’s a bit like a placeholder, though I presume it’ll be hefty anyway. I presume many pc games are already this kind of size when you have all the 4k stuff downloaded.

  8. Battlefield 1 takes up almost 100gb on my PS4. Bloody nuisance.
