The studio behind the movies like the Despicable Me franchise is close to striking a deal with Nintendo for a Super Mario Bros movie, reports The Wall Street Journal. According to the site talks have been ongoing for a year but it is only now close to completion, with the deal apparently for one film. However if the movie is successful, and with the brand recognition of Mario it should be, then more could be made.
This isn’t the first time the Mario Bros would have been subject of a movie, but the 1993 live action movie that starred Bob Hoskins was quite a reimagining of Nintendo’s property. It may have been why the company has been so reluctant to tap into the movie market with its properties since. With this being an animated feature though this Mario movie should have a much more recognisable look to it.
