Destiny 2’s Platinum Trophy Is Unattainable For Those Who Don’t Own The Curse Of Osiris DLC

The launch of The Curse of Osiris expansion has seen the level cap in Destiny 2 raised to 25 and the power level raised from 300 (or 305 with mods) to 330. No surprises there; expansions for large MMO’s always raise the levels, but there’s a bit of a problem for trophy hunters.

To take into account the new levels the Prestige versions of the Leviathan Raid and Nightfall Strike, they have had their requirement levels pushed up to 330. Unfortunately there is a gold trophy for completing either of these activities and if you don’t have The Curse of Osiris you can’t reach level 330. That means you can no longer get the Gold trophy and the subsequent Platinum. The base level of the Leviathan Raid has also been bumped up to 300, so it now has the same suggested levels as the previous Prestige level event.

There’s always going to have to be some sort of compromise when expansions are released for games like Destiny, but locking off previously available trophies behind paid DLC seems like a mistake.

In other Destiny 2 news, the “Eater of Worlds” Raid Lair will be launching at 10 AM Pacific on Friday December 8th.

  1. It’s not a game that I will ever buy, let alone achieve the platinum in but hopefully Sony will have something to say about this. I seem to remember them taking issue with a PSN game that boasted ‘the quickest platinum ever’ and this is much worse IMO being a full price game.

  2. I thought platinum trophies were unlocked after all the non-DLC trophies for a game had been obtained? Not a Destiny player, but very surprised about this…

    • One of the non-DLC trophies is to complete a Prestige event. They’ve upped the required light level for these to beyond the point that you can reach without DLC, though.

  3. Yep, apparently Sony and Microsoft will both refund your purchase of the main game very quickly, with no questions asked, if you request it and meet the following criteria.
    1) you bought the digital game
    2) you haven’t bought the dlc
    3) you haven’t already unlocked those trophies/achievements

    • Platinumed it in about 3 weeks, easiest platinum I’ve earned and only took as long due to when they released trials.

It’s a bit crap for anyone getting the base game for christmas

  4. Well that is really bad!
Reminds of the time from Capcom with Resident Evil 5 Multiplayer being locked despite it is already in the disc and had some trophies that were required for the Platinum….
Again I could be wrong but that is what I could remember years ago.

  5. Oh cripes – developers have found something else to monetise.. Nobody tell EA!
