Been a little while since I’ve written one of these posts so bear with. It appears PSN is having issues on PS4 with people unable to play online or chat with friends. Sods law it happens as I’m about to play Onrush. Anyway the message from Sony is as follows.
You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features. Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.
That was posted aroind an hour ago so hopefully it’ll be fixed soon.

I’d have complained a bit sooner if the PS4 browser wasn’t also crashing every time i attempt to write a comment! :/
