Sony Reveals The PlayStation Classic, Coming December

Mini versions of classic consoles seem to be all the rage as companies look to tap into some serious nostalgia. Sony has today proven it is no exception to that rule, and has announced the PlayStation Classic, which is 45% smaller than the original PlayStation. The console will come with 20 pre-installed games and two controllers.

The games that have been confirmed so far are Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, and R4 Ridge Racer Type 4. The PlayStation Classic will release December 3rd for £89.99/€99.99.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. 20 games out of how many in total? 7000+ globally?

Let’s add Krazy Ivan to the list. I bet they add some dross in that 20 as well

Better off buying a PS1 and sticking a Raspberry Pi 3 inside running retropie. Hmmmm I feel a project on the cards lol

  2. No idea why everyone seems crazy about bad old games. Because we liked them back then, as we had nothing better? Will be a hard landing for many. But I’m sure sales will skyrocket and overtake the PS4 in no time.

  3. THPS 2 is a must.

  4. I have the mini SNES as it had some games I loved and the SNES was the first console I brought for myself so it holds great memories. However I think I will pass on the mini PS1.

As much as I loved the PS1 I still have a day 1 PS3 (Phat) that works perfectly and can still play the PS1 & PS2 games I want on it. Which I have to admit is not very often. The mini only has 20 games on board and of the ones announced not many take my fancy. Shame!

I’m sure it will still sell bucket loads at Chrimbo and hope it does!!!

  5. I suppose it doesn’t really help that a lot of PS classics have already been, or are being, remastered. Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil 2, Final Fantasy 7, etc.. Shot themselves in the foot a bit.
