Sony Reveals The PlayStation Classic, Coming December

Mini versions of classic consoles seem to be all the rage as companies look to tap into some serious nostalgia. Sony has today proven it is no exception to that rule, and has announced the PlayStation Classic, which is 45% smaller than the original PlayStation. The console will come with 20 pre-installed games and two controllers.

The games that have been confirmed so far are Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Wild Arms, Jumping Flash, and R4 Ridge Racer Type 4. The PlayStation Classic will release December 3rd for £89.99/€99.99.

From the heady days of the Mega Drive up until the modern day gaming has been my main hobby. I'll give almost any game a go.

  1. £90? 😂 Christ that’s more than twice the price that it should be!

Pretty sure they knock these out for about £4, development won’t have been particularly expensive, and games that are 25 years old.

    Ludicrous pricing imo.

    • Yeah, it’s well overpriced. And only 20 games?

    • Hmm yeah it does seem expensive, I’d pay the money but it’ll hinge on having at least all of the most iconic games as well as being a really good quality little box, like the Nintendo ones. That or it’s hackable and we can add our own games.

  2. Day one, and priced, in my opinion perfectly. The SNES Mini was £79.99 with the same level of peripherals. So £89.99 is alright!

Ill be all over this as PS1 and PS2 are consoles and games I made a lot of money on flogging via ebay. I had tonnes of kit. Really looking forward to this. Titles I am hoping for …

Gran Turismo 1 or 2 [why all the pre ps4 titles haven’t been remastered is beyond me]
    Policenauts
    Symphony of the Night
    Die Hard Trilogy
Metal Gear Solid of course [Got Legacy on the PS4 but its still a must for this console]
    Soul Edge
    Tekken
    Rival Schools
Street Fighter EX Plus Alpha [which I still have on disk]
    FF7
    Vagrant Story
    Dino Crisis
    Resident Evil
    Bust-A-Move
    Bloody Roar
    Soul Reaver
    Syphon Filter

I could go on and on and on….. :-)

    • Yea, too many great games.

All the Tomb Raiders, Resi Evils, MGS1, GTA 1&2, Dino Crisis 1&2, Colin McRae Rally, Destruction Derby, Spyro, Crash, Soul Reaver, Driver, Spider-man 1&2, Silent Hill, Kula World, Ghost in the Shell, Tomba 2, Overboard, V2000, Command & Conquer: Red Alert, Disney’s Hercules, A Bugs Life, Tarzan, One of the Star Wars games (I can’t remember which).

I still have my Dad’s old PS1 in the attic + a huge collection of PS1 games – but this is just too darn cute.

      • Awesome.

Definitely worth digging it out! Makes me wish I never flogged mine. It was a mega console I mean I even loved the boxes the games came in. Totally buying the classic as soon as it drops. Definitely preordering :-)

  3. £90. Haha, no.

  4. I never had a PS1 so aren’t too bothered about this, but if they release a PS2 classic I’ll snap that up in a heartbeat!

  5. I’d need to see a list of the games but it sounds a bit expensive just to play a small selection of games.

  6. Nah, not when I can get myself Spider-Man and RDR 2 for the same money.

  7. Pre-orders are up on the GAME website!

  8. It’s a great idea but 20 games isn’t even scratching the surface of the PS1 library. Would be great if they let you buy and download additional PS1 games from the store.

  9. I have the Mini NES and SNES but this with 20 games that are not my style…. c’mon SONY it needs to be at least 60 with all the classics. I think I’ll give it a miss as I still have the original PS1 and all the games such as GTA, Driver, Crash Bandicoot, THPS, Cool Borders, RE 1,2 and 3 and to name a few….
I’ll wait for a mini N64 and I am sold!

  10. The reasons why I haven’t bought a NES/SNES mini:

    – Can’t add new games to it without hacking
    – Short controller cables / no wireless option

If Sony don’t make these mistakes I might be in, but I’m not holding my breath. Always got my RPi.
