The first expansion for Gwent: The Witcher Card Game is coming out later this month. Titled Crimson Curse, it’s coming out on 28th March across PC, PS4 and Xbox One, and sees a new breed of monsters and villains rising up, and new heroes waging war to fight them back.
Over 100 new cards will be added to the game across the various factions. You’ll have new Poison and Bleeding effects, can use Shield and Vitality to defend yourself, and there’s new gameplay mechanics in the form of Deathblow and Berserk. All cards, just as in the main game, will come in both a standard and premium animated version.
Easily one of the most popular things from The Witcher 3, Gwent was spun into its own game last year as a free to play game backed by microtransactions. At the same time, a paid standalone single player campaign, Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, was also released, built around the card battling of Gwent and featuring a protagonist other than Geralt for the first time.

I freaking love this game. I’ve played nearly 600 hours since closed beta launched 2 years ago and highly recommend it. Gwent has had some ups and downs but they’ve been nailing it since official launch in October, listening to the community and regularly keeping in contact with players through streams and reddit. It’s also by far the most generous F2P card game out there, as well as having the best card art.
