There’s been a mini renaissance for Star Wars Battlefront II over the past six months, as DICE embarked on a long Clone Wars themed season of content. That’s seen the release of a number of new hero characters, new skins for clone troopers, and now tomorrow, 26th March, the launch of a brand new game mode, Capital Supremacy.
This is a particularly interesting mode, reminiscent of Carrier Assault from older Battlefield games as the two sides seek to assault one another’s capital ship and destroy it. The round starts with players on the surface of Geonosis, fighting to take control of a few command posts, before letting you hop onto transport ships as your side accrues enough respawn points, and shifting to a fight aboard the enemy capital ship – a Venator-class Star Destroyer for the Clones and Separatist Dreadnought for the Trade Federation.
A few things stand out about this mode, though. Firstly, there’s just the one Clone Wars era map on Geonosis, which will come as a bit of a disappointment and a sign of where Battlefront II’s development resources stand right now. Secondly, this is a 20v20 game mode, but an additional 12v12 AI units will also be present to bolster the ranks on the ground, similar to how there are AI pilots in Starfighter Assault.
Light side heroes will be Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Yoda and Chewbacca, while Dark side heroes will include General Grievous, Count Dooku, Darth Maul and Bossk.
