Officially announced yesterday at the PC Gaming Show, Rebellion have now released a spot of gameplay footage for Zombie Army 4: Dead War, the latest game in their co-op zombie shooter series. The game will be coming out for PS4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store in early 2020.
Here’s eight minutes of narrated gameplay from the very start of the game.
Set after Hitler’s last gasp plan to unleash zombie armies on the world was thwarted in Zombie Army 3, the game starts with the series’ heroes on clean up duty, with the zombies just milling around with no purpose. It doesn’t take long for zombies with glowing eyes to reappear, meaning that they have purpose and are deadly once more. The new campaign will take this brave band of heroes to a corpse-filled Venice, a zombie zoo and beyond.
New for the game is a system of upgrades and customisation. There’s skills, special attacks, weapon upgrades, emotes and more, which are previewed in the above video. The example here is an electrified barrel, which can be upgraded further to burst the head of any zombie he hits and arc damage to nearby zombies as well.
The core four player co-op gameplay remains though, with improved drop-in, drop-out multiplayer.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War leaked a few days ago in the run up to E3, thanks to an errant Amazon Spain listing, and was rightly thought to be the “Major Unannounced Title” that Rebellion were teasing.
The co-op oriented Zombie Army series spawned as an undead spin-off from Sniper Elite V2 back in 2013 – then it was known as Nazi Zombie Army, but that doesn’t really fly with putting games in retail store – receiving a sequel and eventually a full release on console as Zombie Army Trilogy.
Zombie Army 4: Dead War is coming to PS4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store in early 2020.
