I think it’s fair to say that We Happy Few didn’t quite meet expectations when it was released, and it may not have helped how much hype had surrounded the game prior to release. Still, Compulsion Games are continuously working on the title and now the studio has confirmed the second bit of DLC that will be coming to the game. That DLC is called Lightbearer and it will be available next week on July 30th for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
In this DLC the main star of the show will be rockstar Nick Lightbearer who has a huge following. This DLC will follow a journey filled with drugs, music, and claims by Nick that the “purples” have made him into some kind of monster. There are no more details on what that means as it’ll be the story that needs to be uncovered in the DLC, but I’m guessing it’ll have some sinister outcome for Nick and uncover an even darker side of the We Happy Few world. Lightbearer will be a part of We Happy Few season pass which costs $19.99 or as a separate download for $7.99 if you prefer.
In our We Happy Few review Jason wrote, “There’s a huge amount of potential in this dystopian 1960s drug trip, but ultimately it starts to feel frustrating quite quickly. Every time We Happy Few draws you in with an interesting tidbit about the world or the character you are playing as it’s scuppered by the systems fighting against you. It just becomes frustrating and makes a potentially immersive experience an irritating exercise in dealing with the game mistaking your intentions. Much like the dystopian world in which it is set, We Happy Few never feels quite right.”
