Piranha Games have announced that MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will released on the Epic Games Store and will be exclusive for a year. They have also announced the game will be delayed until December 10th as it needed a little more polish, and the new partnership will allow them to enhance their marketing plan. The game was meant to be released on September 10th, 2019.
The title is the first single player campaign game in the series in more than 17 years.
“Our partnership with the Epic Games store allows Piranha the opportunity to make sure MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries meets our internal goal of creating the best MechWarrior game possible,” said Russ Bullock, executive producer. “Since we announced the development of the first single-player MechWarrior game in 17 years, we have stated that our goal was to deliver to fans a MechWarrior: Mercenaries experience with true freedom of choice and to be able to share that experience in a coop setting.
It has also been revealed that the free games on the Epic Game Store for August will be Alan Wake and For Honor, both excellent titles. At present the store is offering This War of Mine and Moonlighter and you can get both by following this link.
Epic have been throwing money at the Store in an attempt to break Steam’s monopoly and recently announced that they would cover any refunds for dissatisfied backers of Shenmue III and any other crowdfunded games that go exclusive to the store.
Tetris Effect, Twim Mirror, Heavy Rain, Control, Metro Exodus, and the final season of Telltale’s The Walking Dead are all exclusive to the store and other games are expected to follow including selected releases from Ubisoft.
Rebellion CEO and co-founder Jason Kingsley said he would need a “bloody good reason” to make their future games Epic Games Store exclusives but they have decided to do just that for the upcoming Zombie Army 4.
Generally I think I would prefer not to do exclusives but I understand Epic’s position with it, and quite frankly they are paying through the nose to build their store,” Jason said. “We’ll take some of their money, thank you very much,” he added.
