KT Racing are returning to the officially licensed World Rally Championship this year with WRC 8, but while we’ve known that they were aiming for a September release month, it’s only recently been revealed that it will be coming out on 5th September for PS4, Xbox One and PC – the Switch version will follow in September.
WRC 8 is aiming to challenge Dirt Rally 2.0 in the sim racing stakes, with a renewed focus on more hardcore physics and with a new single player career mode that was highlighted in the most recent trailer.
The career in WRC 8 is intended to mimic real life, letting you join and lead a WRC team and progressing through multiple seasons. A key part of that is now being able to decide which events on the calendar you wish to take part in between rallies, including training, manufacturer challenges, classic events and simply having a bit of a rest.
Those classic events now make use of new classic cars in the game. While not as extensive as the roster found in other rally games, Kylotonn are including a few classics in the main game that are then augmented by DLC and pre-order bonuses. Pre-ordering the game will net you the RWD Legends pack, which includes the Lancia 037, the last rear-wheel drive car to win the championship, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS RGT.
If you pick up the Collector’s Edition or Digital Deluxe Edition, then that also adds the Legendary Cars pack which features the Alpine A110, Ford Escort RS and Lancia Delta HF Integrale, as well as some experienced crew members to boost your team staff in career mode and a three month subscription to WRC+ All Live TV, which features 25 hours of live coverage of each rally, expert analysis and behind-the-scenes reporting.
We went hands on with the game a little earlier this week, so keep an eye out for our preview and accompanying video later this afternoon.
