Well paint me turquoise and call me Beryl, the Jumanji video game looks like it could be a bit of a laugh, whodathunk. Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar and Professor Shelly Oberon look close to their big screen counterparts in a ‘we couldn’t get the rights to use the actual actors but we’re doing the best we can’ sort of way and the whole game has a Fortnite-esque cartoon look to it.
The four player combat looks a lot of fun and it’s nice to see some classic traps like huge swinging blades. It’s not perfect by any means, the animation at about 27 seconds where the team are climbing some stairs looks like a PS2 game but you can’t have everything.
The game has split screen and online co-op, and if you haven’t got three chums you can rope in some AI partners. “There’s an army of evil marauders to take on, deadly beasts and traps to dodge, and cool customizations to unlock,” say Outright Games. “And with heroes Dr. Bravestone, Ruby, Mouse, and Prof. Oberon as your avatars, you know you’ve got the unique abilities – and hilarious failings – to save the day!”
The game will launch on PlayStation 4, PC, Xbox One, and Switch on November 15th for around £35.
