During this year’s New York Comic Con Square Enix and Tomb Raider developer, Crystal Dynamics, were there to show off Marvel’s Avengers.
For those who missed it, their headline reveal over the weekend was a new playable hero. Kamala Khan – better known as the shape shifting Ms. Marvel – will join Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, and The Hulk – here’s the original announcement.
Other details have also come to light, including the estimated length of the game’s story content and a look at some alternate costumes for each of the playable characters.
First up, in an interview with Comicbook.com, Crystal Dynamics Senior Brand Director Rich Briggs gave us an insight into how long the main story missions will add up to, saying:
“I think it’ll depend on exactly how deep you want to go into it. So if you think about previous Crystal games, you know that if you want to be playing your way through the core story, it’s going to be in that area, 10 to 12 hours. But if you want to see everything there is, and do all the side missions and everything else, you’re generally looking at 30 plus hours in the Tomb Raider games.”
Although Marvel’s Avengers features online play for groups of four, this exists in its own game mode. To clarify, there are two mission types players can undertake including Hero missions that act much like your traditional singleplayer levels with Warzone missions built around the game’s broader co-op experience.
The amount of content on offer will expand after the game’s May 2020 launch, Crystal Dynamics having already confirmed that additional Avengers characters are in the pipeline. Needless to say, this is being treated as more of a live service game, in the same vein as Destiny and The Division.
Meanwhile, a video uploaded by IGN showcases a number of alternate costumes players can unlock for each of the game’s characters as well as some of their finisher attacks.
Marvel’s Avengers launches on May 15th 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia.
