Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have unveiled another super hero that will join the roster of the upcoming Marvel’s Avengers. It’s Kamala Khan, who batters bad guys under the name of Ms. Marvel.
The first muslim super hero in the Marvel universe, Khan’s has shapeshifting abilities similar to Mr. Fantastic, having taken the name from Carol Danvers in the comics after Danvers became Captain Marvel. In the game’s original tale, her abilities were gained following the A-Day calamity – she was previously spotted in a trailer at SDCC – being exposed to the Terrigen Mist and developing polymorphic powers. She keeps her powers secret, but is then a catalyst to reuniting the Avengers as she uncovers a conspiracy behind their downfall.
Shaun Escayg, Creative Director and Writer at Crystal Dynamics, said, “An optimistic fan girl of the Avengers, Kamala Khan is the perfect character for the story we’re telling in Marvel’s Avengers. Telling our story of Kamala’s coming-of-age brings a fresh, hopeful perspective to the gameplay experience and her unique abilities as Ms. Marvel make her a character every person can relate to and will want to play. Kamala Khan is one of the unique characters that makes our game stand apart from any Avengers story experienced before.”
I went hands on with Marvel’s Avenger at Gamescom, saying “It actually all feels like this can come together quite nicely. Again, Marvel Ultimate Alliance shows that this kind of superhero team up works well for superheroes, and we know the eternal delights of Destiny’s online co-op all too well. The marketing plan might be a little mystifying and needlessly obscure the gameplay right now, but they will eventually show off some more meaningful gameplay with a co-op reveal in early 2020. I’m cautiously optimistic.”
Marvel’s Avengers will be out for PS4, Xbox One, Google Stadia and PC on 15th May 2020.
UPDATE: There is a second trailer!
